2025 Los Angeles Fires

More Time to Apply for Health Insurance

You can apply for a health insurance plan now through March 8 if you live in Los Angeles or Ventura County and you’ve been affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.

The normal open -enrollment period (when anyone can apply for health insurance) ends on Jan. 31. Because California has declared a state of emergency for the fires, you now have extra time to apply for health and dental insurance through Covered California for 2025 coverage. This is known as a special-enrollment period.

How to Apply

Apply online or find free enrollment help in your area.

While filling out your application, select “County under state of emergency” as your reason for qualifying for special enrollment.

Once you’ve picked a plan, your insurance plan will start on the first day of the following month if you make your first monthly payment.
